China

Lijiang

Three days in the old city of Lijiang, a center of Naxi and other minorities, and thousands of Chinese tourists. It is a quaint place of narrow cobblestone streets. And shop after shop of bongos with karaoke singing young workers, tea shops, Naxi restaurants, and many shops with women’s clothing.

But, our traditional Naxi hotelier, the Zen Garden Inn, was fantastic. Service in China is impeccable, but tipping is unacceptable. The courtyard was lovely, including a traditional Naxi musician and goldfish!

You can’t imagine how much trouble I’ve had with this great firewall BS. I can really only use the VPN on the iPhone, meaning I can only use the WordPress app for the iPhone-not robust at all. Last night, I spent about 2 hrs on the beginning of China trip, then when I went to publish, it freaking disappeared! The VPN goes on and off, and I need to upload smaller chunks so that doesn’t happen. I’ve changed the system setting for photos-hope it’s better. Hannah didn’t get the OR job. Love, Daddy
